The Character Assasination of Sarah Palin

A Media Spanking in Order? It only took seconds after John McCain's announcement that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would be his Vice-Presidential selection before dirty rumors and mudslinging against her began. While Democratic candidate Barack Obama has, to his credit and honor, repeatedly called for rejection of personal attacks and a focus on issues, the supposedly unbiased media have engaged in the kind of dirty laundry hunts and false rumor mongering they themselves always attribute to Republicans.
Would-be pundit Keith Olberman found her lack of notoriety and experience to be an issue, cracking that when he heard the announcement, he thought they meant Monty Python comedian Michael Palin. This was precisely the stance Obama's camp wanted to avoid, as the Illinois Senator's meagre experience barely matches Palin's.
Next came whispers that Trig Palin, Sarah's four-month-old son who is afflicted with Downs Syndrome, was actually the child of Sarah's daughter, Bristol, and that the Governor had faked her pregnancy to avoid casting shame on the seventeen-year-old. In response, Palin revealed her daughter is pregnant and
Now it is alleged that Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, seeking to have Alaska secede from the United States. However, records show that Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982. The sole connection between her and the separatist party is that, while mayor of Wasilla, she attended the group's convention in her town in her official capacity as mayor and in the performance of her duties.
Latest is the news that Todd Palin, her husband, was arrested for DUI in 1986, at the age of 22. Is this any more relevant than Obama admitting he tried marijuana as a youth? Is it not just proof that the candidate has real humans in her life, with all the foibles that implies?
What will be next, that Palin is a fembot created by Dr. Evil? At this point, there is no telling what a biased media might say... the same media that held the John Edwards infidelity story for months because they found it irrelevant that a man who campaigned on the strength of his family ties was cheating on his wife while she underwent chemotherapy. Oh, yeah, Fox is the only biased coverage, right.

Yeah Yeahh. It's obvious that McCain knows as much about VP's as he does about those of the Muslim faith. You can read it at 236.com

I am sick of the right whining about the MSM. What about the conservative slant on all the community papers? Talk Radio? Internet? There are a fair share of liberal sites, but they don't call Politico, drudge, daily kos, townhall (there are too many to name) conservative for nothing! I work for a small-town newspaper, owned by a publishing company that is headed by a former Republican congressman. This company owns 50+ newspapers across four states. Our editors received an email before the 2004 election stating that our editorial staffs were forbidden from endorsing ANY democrat and our only options were to endorse republican or not at all. Is there a vicous attack on Sarah's daughter? Yes, and A) after a year and a half of attacks on Obama's patriotism, experience, personal life. How many plugs for Corsi's book have i had to hear, headlines across the media. How about his lapel pin or whether he recites the pledge? Or REV. WRIGHT???? And B) was McCain and Palin really that naive about how the spotlight would be directed towards the young girl??? Or did McCain really even know in the first place? Either he didn't know anything about it and he's too impulsive in picking his VP, or he did know and he and her mother are completely insensitive towards her situation? It's one thing to put your "country first", but not at the expense of this child. Unfortunately, Karl Rove taught this country a thing or two about how to win an election and it's not by talking the issues and playing nice. As Sarah Palin has said in regards to Hillary, "Quit whining, just try harder."

Republicans can never get everything they want. How long did FOX rant against Obama because his middle name was Hussein (that's it - his name is Hussein and all of the sudden he's a terrorist)... and yes, what of Obama's "meagre" experience compared to Palin? 7 years in the Illinois State Senate, and 2 in the US Senate. What has Palin done? Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996, 2 terms as mayor of where? Wasilla? from 1996 to 2002 and just in 2006 governor of Alaska? I mean, we're talking "city council" and "mayor" as experience? You're comparing this to a US senator? Come on. And what of her child's baby? It's the Republican social conservatives that make a big deal of Christian values...so Palin deserves to be called to task on it. You think Rush Limbaugh wouldn't be at Obama's throat if he hadn't been in the same situation? Give me a break.

How long did the FOX News channel rant against Obama because his middle name is Hussein? A grand total of zero minutes and zero seconds of airtime. What an incredibly stupid thing for you to say.

Great comment. I am so sick of these professional commentators pushing their simple, narrow and judgement views and agendas. I can't stand it, but feel powerless to do anything about it.
I am upset that yet another woman has been picked apart piece by piece by these wolves before we the public have to a chance to hear from the woman herself. Their hyprocrisy is unbelieable and they are well organized and intentional about it. I think character assassination is the plan because that way they can keep us real citizens from evaluating this woman on her own terms. John Edwards is a perfect example, I mean they never asked him or Obama the questions and harrassment they are heaping on this woman. I supported John Edwards early on and I feel so cheated by the media. I would not have supported him had I known what I know now-only too late. IT just makes me wonder what I am not being told about the candidate these commentators support. I wish there was some way that citizens could do something about these people, but they are not elected and they are charged with pushing some agenda that may or may not have anything to do with what is best for us. |

Dan Quayle was the worst veep I've ever seen and he didn't get this kind of flak. It's below the belt what's going on. And I'm a Democrat who has every right to enjoy the reverse-direction of slime this go around. I'm not enjoying this one bit.

She didn't close the rumors. We still think Trig is Bristol's and that she got pregnant again shortly after giving birth to Trig. Bristol is 5 months along because Gov. Palin says she is? Only reliable, independent verification of Trig's birth and parentage, and Bristol's estimated date of conception for this pregnancy, would dissuade rumors. I understand what Gov. Palin did, however.

I believe next is that Todd Palin, her husband, was a member of the AIP for a decade until 2002 - verified by the Alaska Department of Elections. He is currently "undeclared".
So she may have attended the 1994 convention with him, because he was a member. |

WOW...
Why isn't anyone pointing out that she was a leader in an independent party that was trying to get Alaska to secede from the Union? When Mrs. Obama said she was proud of her country for the first time, the republicans jumped all over that questioning her loyalty as an amercian. Seeeet this gal is trying to divide the United States and no one says a word, just focus on the kid...believe me there is a lot more to focus on that is far more damaging and everyone is ignoring the more important things. Screw her daughter...oops someone already took care of that. |

Fringe Alaskan Independence Party: Palin was a Member
blogs.abcnews.com — McCain's campaign likes to herald the independence of its new running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which has been pushing for a legal vote on whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the U.S. Where was Jason Bennett's "The Character Assasination of Barack and Michelle Obama"? Jason Bennett does not "get it." |

Frankly, I couldn't care less about Sarah Palin’s knocked up teenage daughter... although if you want to talk about family values, after allegedly giving birth to her Downs Syndrome son, Mrs. Palin was back at work THREE DAYS later. Is that really valuing your family? The point is, she is wildly inexperienced to be a heartbeat from the presidency, especially for the oldest presidential candidate in our nation’s history. City councilwoman, and mayor of a town of 7000 people in Alaska is not adequate political experience for a position this important. Nor is Governor for 21 months. John McCain had met Sarah Palin ONCE before selecting her as the best person in the country for the job... this was a thinly veiled chess move to grab disenfranchised Hillary supporters, in the interest of winning the election, NOT in the best interest of the people of this country. Shame on John McCain.

I just read that Sarah Palin gave birth to her newest addition on a Monday and was back in office on Tuesday. I know every pregnancy is different, but I've given birth to three, two lived and one never lived outside the womb, all three times required more then a 24 hour recuperation period.

Regarding the attacks on Palin's personal life, I think it was best addressed on a morning news show the other day. They were, once again, reporting about her daughter's pregnancy, then at the end of the report it was ,once again, stated that Obama has stated that personal home issues need to be left private. After this reporter got done, another anchor person asked..., if Obama doesn't want these issues reported and I am sure McCain and Palin don't want these issues to be so public, then why are we reporting on it? Well, as reporters so frequently do, he danced around the question and never really answered it. As a registered voter, I would like to see facts about important world and country issues and the candidates stance on them. Why can't reporters goal be to make the public informed on these important issues so that America can make an educated vote rather than a "popular" one.

It's disgusting to see Palin obviously thinking it cute to stoop to McCain/Rove style lies and deceit. Even more disgusting is that so many people buy it!

I love to see, hear, or read about democrats getting furious because they know they're gonna lose another presidential election! Instead of always blaming someone or something else i.e., "we were cheated", "there was fraud", "the american people were tricked", why don't you do some soul searching (if you can find your soul) and come to the realization that you're party is WAY OUTSIDE THE MAINSTREAM in most issues?
