Christina Applegate Has Double Mastectomy, Cancer Free
A View From the Past Former "Married With Children" star Christina Applegate confirmed she has had a double mastectomy to both remove the cancer she had contracted and prevent future occurrences. She had revealed only a few weeks ago that doctors had found an early form of cancer in one breast, and that she was pursuing treatment.
Applegate's mother, Nancy Priddy, had several recurrences in her fight with breast cancer, surviving one attack only to have the disease reappear in her other breast. Priddy managed to beat her cancer again, but the horrible effects of constant monitoring against recurrence and then having to suffer through chemo and surgical methods a second time convinced Applegate she should deal with her issue once and for all.
Applegate was also aware she had a genetic fault predisposing
As Kelly Bundy on the Fox television program, Applegate was an icon as a dim-witted blonde who lived with her egocentric parents. She had been a child star, appearing in both commercials and television shows before the success of "Married With Children." After the show became a hit, Applegate starred or worked in a series of semi-successful movies, including a praised turn as television news anchorwoman Veronica Corningstone in "Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy."
Following this drastic turn in her life, it can only be hoped Applegate finds happiness in her decision to proactively resist cancer. Stay classy, Veronica Corningstone.
