Madonna turned fifty years old Saturday, and Alex Rodriguez was nowhere to be found. Instead, the pop artist celebrated with husband Guy Ritchie, choosing to attend a Kaballah blessing and then heading out to the popular Volstead nightclub in London.
The marriage, which was clearly on the rocks recently as reports of dalliances between Madonna and Rodriguez, the New York Yankees slugger, filled the tabloids, seems to have caught a new wind. Ritchie presented a twenty-minute video displaying a tribute to his beloved, and concluded with a poem he composed that made the Material Girl both laugh and tear up.
Ritchie is the director of "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", among other films.
The Guinness Book of World Records lists Madonna as the most successful female recording artist ever, with sales of 120 million albums and 40 million singles to her credit.
There have been recent rumors that Madonna is preparing for the second time to adopt a child from Malawi against the will of its nearest relatives, but publicists for the singer have denied their veracity. However, the first adoption, of David Banda, was also refuted by publicists until it became an undeniable fact.
