Cast of "The Bernie Mac Show"
Everyman comedian Bernie Mac died Saturday from complications due to pneumonia. Mac, a popular figure in both television and film, was 50. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rhonda; his daughter, Je'Niece; and his granddaughter, Jasmine.

Mac achieved national recognition in the movie "The Original Kings of Comedy", in which he, along with Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, and D. L. Hughley performed their stand-up routines. He starred in his eponymous television show on Fox from 2001-2006, playing a married man whose family suddenly includes three children.

Mac also appeared as one of the con team working for George Clooney in "Ocean's Eleven" and
its two sequels. He played the role of Bosley in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle", and starred as the headliner in "Mr. 3000."

Mac had contracted the lung disease sarcoidosis, which causes inflammation of the lungs and the formation of cell clumps throughout the organs, but the disease had been in remission since 2005, and Mac's publicist said the pneumonia was not related.

Just last year, Mac told David Letterman in a late-night television appearance that he would most likely retire after completing work on his latest project, "The Whole Truth, Nothing But The Truth, So Help Me Mac." He stated he felt he had missed some things in life pursuing his 30-year career, and it was time to enjoy himself.
