New Album Won't Be Sold Until July
Nine Inch Nails is apparently thanking their fans for all of their loyal support. The band has released their new album, 'The Slip', for free on their website.
Fans of the band can download the album for free, which is a change for the music industry. The album is not even available in stores to be bought yet.
"Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years-this one's on me," said the band's front man, Trent Reznor, in a post on their website. The album became available for download at 3:00 A.M. this morning.
This is not the first time that a musician has offered their music for free. Coldplay is offering their first single off their new album for free for a limited time. Radiohead also ran a promotion where people could pay what they wanted for Radiohead's new album.
While the media tries to dissect what motives these musicians have for offering their music for free, Radiohead's Thom Yorke claims it is just what they feel like doing at the time. "I don't think it would have the same significance now anyway, if we chose to give something away again. It was a moment in time."
The new Nine Inch Nails album will not be available in stores until July.
