Seacrest May Get More Or Less Face Time Depending On Survey Results

Ryan Seacrest Glaring American Idol had their lowest rated show in five years last week. It still was the top watched show of the week, but with viewers not tuning in as they used to, changes could be on the horizon.
FOX has reacted rather quickly to the lower ratings. They have put out a survey to viewers, asking a wide range of questions about the show.
The questions range from whether viewers would like to see more or less of the show's host Ryan Seacrest, to possible format changes to the show. One of the questions was "Suppose the first few weeks of 'American Idol' started in Hollywood with flashbacks of
The questions covered a wide variety of topics from the show. One question asked whether viewers would want to see more or less of the judges. FOX is looking for overwhelming responses to the questions. Any split down the middle will probably result in no changes.
The show is discussed every year when it has finished. At that time, changes for the show's format are contemplated, and if an agreement is reached, the changes are made. This year, the show had a new set, and new lead in graphics.

Perhaps if from the very first auditon, they had not made it blatantly obvious they were behind David Archuleta for the win, and had made it more competitive, they might not have lost so many viewers. David Cook is there for sheer talent, but in the beginning Simon especially was trying to put the viewers off, saying he is arrogrant, smug, etc. So many people said what is the point of watching when we know they want David Archuleta to win. However, now there is a competition, but it is too late, viewers turned off. People are tired of the judges manipulating them and making them doubt their own tastes. Syesha never stood a chance, Simon has Leona Lewis and he was never letting anyone with a possibility of sharing her fan base get to the end.

Idol doesn't get it! It's not about Ryan, or the judges. It's about their horribly flawed VOTING system! Year after year, people watch the show only to see some of the best contestants leave in lieu of awful singers (can anyone say SANJAYA?). As long as people are allowed to vote in unlimited numbers, the show will continue to lose it's appeal. Who wants to watch a bunch of non-talents duke it out?

There may not be much that Idol can do at this point. Every successful show peaks. Idol peaked. This is the 7th season. The charm of the show is gone. It happens. The producers would have to not only update the stage but completely revamp the whole formula which has become completely predictable and tired. The judges are just collecting their paychecks at this point. They all look completely bored. Ryan has become repellent. But the most troubling thing are the theme weeks which reveal the producers as being completely out of touch with current music. The show needs most what it won't get which are new producers and idea people. Just like Clive was ousted from his Arista position, Nigel needs to step aside too.

Agree w/ rob...Idol is codified-all the clues, the strategies, the drama. Not many surprises left. The guest mentors are usually stars from other eras or in a less than stellar period of their careers & need the publicity - or just odd [Andrew Lloyd Weber?] People are tired of hearing the same comments & adjectives from the judges & just plain tired of Ryan Seacrest. Maybe if the contestants were allowed more time to practice & sing & just sleep, meaning fewer photo shoots, publicity & product pushing...the overall quality on performance nights would improve. Also, letting them sing for more than 90 seconds would make for better arrangements & a more realistic idea of each person's talent.

I get tired of the dumb jokes ryan and simon say all the time. They toned it down this season but guys after like 6 years of jokes come on! How many times each week can the writers keep making jokes for simon and ryan? Are they like brain dead? Write a new script for christ sakes already!
Also the top 12 this year are really terrible compared to other years. How about them picking good songs to sing? The 60s week they picked songs I never heard of. 80s week also songs nobody likes. The show has a load of problems. I think the end is near and it is beyond repair. |

THis is basic and the Idol producers do not get it. THese kids come out week after week in drab, dirty looking clothes with fairly poor song choices. No style, no substance. In the first few years you actually started to see the contestants grow into stars...Clay Aiken make-over ring a bell? Kelly Clarkson dressed to the nines to sing "Stuff Like That There" - this brings another great point: Why does everything have to be pop music? It's about song choices and the ability to deliver the performance. It has nothing to do with what era the music is from or hosts or judges.
Tuesday night is a great example. How do you forget how to pull off a double-song night show? They use to do it flawlessly...costume changes, the works...last night, no clothes changing, no set changes...couldn't do it. |

Ryan Seacrest is an ass...........he is a no talent joke, yet the media keeps building him up........don't get it at all. The judges are fine but the guest performers? Who picked them? This is a show for young people....they probably didn't know who Andrew Lloyd Weber was. The choices were horrible, I would have liked to have seen Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, The Eagles, JJ Cale or Mr. Clapton himself up there. Fox has enough $$$, don't let them fool you. Music was old and not really well-known. I give the kids a lot of credit to have performed this well under so much pressure...........they are a talented bunch and wishe everyone of them much success.
