Neil Diamond Smirking American Idol is coming into the home stretch. The show only has five contestants remaining, and the upcoming week could prove to be a challenge for them.

Neil Diamond will be the guest mentor. The past two weeks Mariah Carey and Andrew Lloyd Webber took their turn mentoring. Unfortunately for Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson, those weeks did not go too well.

This week, Brooke White will have the pressure to perform squarely on her vocal chords. She had to restart her song last week, but was somehow saved by voters. Syesha Mercado will also have to perform well. She has been no stranger to the bottom two.

Jason Castro is still in the competition. Last week, Simon Cowell thought his performance was poor, but Castro's popularity among voters kept him on the show.

The favorites to meet in the finals are continuing to roll along. David Archuleta and David Cook both continue to impress with their performances. Neither appears to be in any danger of being eliminated anytime soon.

The challenge this week will be to impress musical legend Neil Diamond. Tune in Tuesday night on FOX to see which of the finalists come through.
