Steinbrenner Wants Chamberlain In Starting Rotation
The New York Yankees have dealt with their owner saying things in the media to fire up his team. While it is not uncommon for a Steinbrenner to make public remarks, it is surprising to some that it is Hank, and not George, who is doing the talking.
The younger Steinbrenner has come out over the weekend and stated that he wants Joba Chamberlain moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation for the New York Yankees. The only problem with Steinbrenner's remarks, is that he is not the coach, Joe Girardi is.
Steinbrenner told the New York Times this past weekend that, "only an idiot", would put Chamberlain in the bullpen, and not use him as a starter. He was not content to stop at that, however. "The mistake was already made last year switching him to the bullpen out of panic or whatever. I had no say in it last year and I wouldn't have allowed it," Steinbrenner said.
The battle could get interesting between Steinbrenner and General Manager Brian Cashman, according to several sources with knowledge of the situation. Cashman has defended the situation, and also went as far as to say that Chamberlain would not be in the rotation anytime soon.
"It is likely Steinbrenner was saying that to put pressure on our young pitchers who are in the rotation now, kind of get them to step up," said longtime Yankee fan, Billy Stevens.
