Jordin Sparks has been no stranger to being in the spotlight. Her father played professional football for the New York Giants while she was growing up and last year, Sparks was the winner of American Idol.

Since Idol, she has recorded an album and went on the Idol summer tour. She was slated to open for Alicia Keys on a tour that began this past weekend.

Those plans have changed, according to a representative for Sparks, due to a vocal throat injury. Wendy Washington, from 19/Jive Records, told the AP that, "All of her April activities have been postponed or canceled so she can take care of her voice
properly."

Not only has the Keys tour been affected by Sparks' voice, but Sparks has also canceled her performance at the Earth Day Network & Green Apple Festival concert. That concert performance was to take place in Washington, D.C.

It is expected that Sparks will rejoin the tour beginning in May.

19/Jive Records revealed in a statement to the press that the American Idol star will make a full recovery.

"Jordin Sparks is on vocal rest and is expected to make a full recovery. Sparks has been going nonstop over the past two years and now she's going through the normal course of learning how to manage and care for her voice."
