Derek Jeter is the captain of the New York Yankees. When the team needs someone to turn to in times of need, Jeter is their guy. Except for this weekend.

Jeter missed the entire series with the Red Sox in Boston. He was pulled out of a game mid week in the third inning because of leg issues. He then had to sit and watch his teammates do battle with the hated Red Sox over the weekend.

This was just an early season match up, but it still was the Red Sox. For Jeter to miss the series, he had to really be injured. It now is worth asking
the question as to whether Jeter will need to be placed on the disabled list.

The Yankees won the first game of the series, but things went sour after that. Boston won on Saturday, in a game that was delayed for several hours due to rain. Then on Sunday night, The Sox again bested the Yankees 8-5.

Jeter and the Yankees have started out the 2008 season slowly, mush like they did last year. When they were off to a similar start last year, people were calling for ex manager Joe Torre's job. Only time will tell how the Yankees and their captain handle this early challenge.
