Drunk Driving Charge Nets Misha Barton Probation
Misha Barton avoided jail time on Thursday when she received three years of probation for a drunk driving charge. The probation means the actress can now get back to her career without having the case hanging over her.
Barton was not in attendance at the courthouse where she was sentenced. Her lawyer thanked the judge for moving the process along quickly.
"Ms. Barton understands the seriousness of this situation and assumes all responsibility for her actions. She and I are grateful to the court and the District Attorney's Office for the prompt and respectful resolution of the case," said Howard Bragman, Barton's lawyer, in a statement after the hearing.
In addition to the probation, Barton will have to take part in an alcohol education program. The probation will be for three years. She entered a no contest plea.
Two other charges against Barton were also amended. One charge, a marijuana possession charge, was dismissed. Another driving without a license charge was dropped to an infraction.
